Objective

Create a poster advertising Macbeth. At the time of the project, a director had not been chosen making it important for the imagery to be symbolic so as to fit with any potential direction of the play.

11x17 in Poster

Concept

The composition rewards the viewer for their exploration by slowly revealing more elements. The flowers lay in a pool of blood painting the roses red, and the noble blade is stained with the blood of the king. All of these elements work together to foreshadow Macbeth’s fate.

The flowers are a mix of native Scottish and American flowers. The faces in the three stones reference the three witches since gemstones are old and from the earth. The illustrative style is inspired by old woodcut prints that would have been available around the time William Shakespeare would have written Macbeth.
