Objective

In the book “Speculative Everything”, speculative design is defined as “the idea of possible futures and using them as tools to better understand the present and to discuss the kind of future people want, and of course, ones people do not want.”

Using this concept, create a speculative identity system.

Icon

Much like a triangle, the WTD logo signifies stability while pointing to a better future for travel. The three rays can be seen as tracks, jet streams, or a road reminding the consumer that under the WTD the possibilities for travel are endless. All of this is encompassed in a circle that represents the sun that travels around the world every day.

This Speculative project is a response to these questions: How can governments of the world modernize the travel document application process to meet the ever-growing needs of a global society? How can a design be universal? What is currently preventing citizens of the world from accessing visas and passports?

The World Travel Department was established in 2024 by the UN to standardize travel document applications and combine passports and visas under one book with an interchangeable cover notating the type of travel.
