Concept
“We live in a fast-paced world that categorizes communities based on various sociology-cultural norms and appearances. The Asian community is grouped, simplified, and mostly unseen, however Asian cuisines are pronounced, accepted, and enjoyed. The paradoxical perceptions of visible and invisible, model minority and xenophobia question the dominant cultural understanding of Asian identity and practices.” Archana Shekara
Within my book I want the viewer to find understanding in how Asian immigrants preserve their own culture while assimilating to their new surroundings and the everyday struggles that come with leaving home through Princy’s story. The photography, interpretive type, and bold colors create a unique and dynamic spread for each page that encourages the reader to learn more and read on. The dynamic and curling type requires the reader to turn and move the book as they read mimicking the difficulty Princy had while navigating American culture.
